The one and only Woodward Dream
Cruise...
Mecca for every Hot Rodder, Gear Jammer,
Grease Monkey and Backyard Mechanic... The Annual Woodward Dream
Cruise. Yep, over a million musclecar fanatics stretched
across 16 miles of one of the most well known cruise strips of the
'60s. You just got to love it!
The
beginning of the day was a little anti-climatic. We had just
over 10 brave souls/cars willing to take the chance of getting a
little dirty and caravan out to Woodward. We started off at
8:30 AM... At 8:45 AM it started raining and didn't let up until 10
AM. After 11 AM, it finally started drying up and getting
crowded. Little by little, most of the 72 cars who reserved a
spot showed up at the lot.
Those who
pre-registered for our show on Sunday were able to reserve a parking
spot in the lot we rented on Woodward. Now the lot itself was
a little north of the bulk of the action, but there was still plenty
of cars to see! We intentionally reserved a lot further north
of the action for one reason alone... You can actually still
cruise! In the heart of all of the action, it was just a
parking lot. Where we were, you could actually
"stretch" the Goat's legs (or a little more for those with
an abundance of bravado!). I personally witnessed more than a
few GTOs take advantage of the wide open road in front of them when
they left the lot to go cruise. Despite the shaky beginning,
everyone had a great time!
I almost
forgot... We threw a Parking Lot Party at the host hotel in
the early evening! After a long day of hitting the pavement an
outdoor buffet sure hit the spot. For those who brought little
ones with them, the hotel had a huge water park to fill their
time. For the rest of us, it was a long night of bench racing.
